A Question regarding power lines
First Home Buyer Club member Malavika asked
I’m a first home buying looking at the Auckland/ Waitakere market right now but a lot of properties in my price range (or the ones we like) are either near a power grid or have power lines running over (or near) the house. I have done some research but nowhere do I seem to get a satisfactory answer about the implication/effects of having power lines on or near your house. I am confused, please advise.
We did some research and found the following summary on the issue from the Health Physics Society
There are no known health risks that have been conclusively demonstrated to be caused by living near high-voltage power lines. But science is unable to prove a negative, including whether low-level EMFs are completely risk free. Most scientists believe that exposure to the low-level EMFs near power lines is safe, but some scientists continue research to look for possible health risks associated with these fields. If there are any risks such as cancer associated with living near power lines, then it is clear that those risks are small.
